I guess I was wrong in thinking the pending sale of the Redbirds to the St. Louis Cardinals would bring better teams to Memphis' Civil Rights baseball game. Major League Baseball announced yesterday that they are moving the game to Cincinnati for the next two years and that the match up will now be a regular season contest. Bottom line...the lack of support that Memphians gives to events like this can almost guarantee that future events will skip over the Bluff City. Who's out next...the Grizzlies?
In addition to all of the “Fire Tommy” chatter in Memphis this week, the talk of the town has been the Tennessee-Florida game. The Vols are still looking to find the chemistry needed to win the game and my hunch is that they will not find it this weekend. Tim Tebow and the Gators will win the game in Knoxville 24–13.
In other football action:
Memphis will earn its first win of the season over Nicholls State 34-17
Mississippi should edge Vandy 27–17
LSU over Auburn in a nail biter 14-13
Southern Miss over Marshall 38-20
Arizona State upsets Georgia 23-20
Denver Broncos over the injury plagued New Orleans Saints 35-24
