Friday night we ventured out of our comfort zone and went to Collierville to eat at Firebirds Rocky Mountain Grill. I usually wouldn't go that far away for a meal, but we had gift certificates to the restaurant.
We arrived around 7pm and were told that we would have an hour wait before we would be seated. At any other location I would have walked away, but the restaurant is located in the Avenue Carriage Crossing outdoor mall. We killed time browsing at stores like World Market and Barnes and Noble.
Firebirds is known for their steaks and prime rib, but neither of us went that route. For starters we had the Lobster Queso dip. The Lobster Queso was blend of cheese, spinach (more cheese than spinach) and lobster. It was served with tortilla chips.
NL had the half smoked chicken. I had a small taste and was impressed with the flavor of the bird. I had the Buffalo Meatloaf. I'm not a fan of meatloaf, but this was really good. It was light and packed with flavor. It was served with mashed potatoes and a mushroom gravy. Portions were plentiful and made great leftovers the next day.
If you go to Firebirds, I recommend the house wine. Firebirds Red is a bordeaux style proprietary blend (bottled by Girard Winery) and for $36 a bottle its a great value.
