The Grizzlies tipped off their season last week, but for a large majority of basketball fans in Memphis the most important tip off is tonight. First year head coach Josh Pastner and the Memphis Tigers open up their 2009-10 campaign this evening against Lemoyne-Owen in an exhibition match up at FedEx Forum. This will also the first game of the year for Lemoyne-Owen.
Other local colleges will tip of their seasons with exhibition games next week. Christian Brothers will take on Memphis and Rhodes will travel to Tennessee-Martin both on November 9.
As expected, the Grizzlies are already off to a rough 1-3 start and things do not appear to be getting better. Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo recently had a shouting match during a game and today Gay became a restricted free agent after not agreeing to terms with the Grizzlies. Gay reportedly turned down $50 million over five years.
To make things more complicated, the real Allen Iverson has arrived. After playing in just one game, A.I. is already complaining about playing time. “No. I’m not a bench player. I’m not a sixth man,” Iverson said. “Look at my resume and that’ll show I’m not a sixth man." And the cancer begins.
